Air Carriers
International visitors typically arrive via Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV), located approximately 40 minutes from the city centre.
The airport is served by major international airlines including British Airways, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and Air France, alongside regional and domestic carriers connecting Abuja to other major Nigerian cities.
Hotel-arranged transfers or pre-booked transport are recommended for airport pick-up.
Visa
Most visitors require a visa to enter Nigeria. Business travellers attending NOG Energy Week should apply for the appropriate visa category in advance of travel.
Applications can be made through your nearest Nigerian embassy or via the official immigration portal, where applicable. Some nationalities may be eligible for Visa on Arrival, subject to prior approval. It is strongly recommended that travellers begin the visa process well ahead of their departure date.
Please note that we are only able to provide visa invitation letters to fully registered participants and once receipt of any outstanding payment has been verified. It is the responsibility of the individual to arrange and bear any costs associated with obtaining an entry visa. At dmg Nigeria events, we may be able to assist with this process but cannot accept liability for any costs nor any costs associated with the failure to obtain such entry visa.
Vaccinations
A valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry into Nigeria and may be requested upon arrival.
Additional recommended vaccinations may include Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine immunisations. Visitors are advised to consult a healthcare professional or travel clinic at least 4–8 weeks prior to travel for personalised medical guidance.
Plug Sockets & Electricity
The most commonly used plug types are Type D and Type G. International visitors are encouraged to bring a universal travel adapter to ensure compatibility with local power outlets.
Currency
The official currency is the Nigerian Naira (NGN). Major hotels, restaurants, and international establishments typically accept credit and debit cards; however, it is advisable to carry some local currency for smaller purchases and transportation.
ATMs are widely available in major cities, including Lagos and Abuja.
Mobile Phone Carriers
Nigeria has several reliable mobile network providers, including MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, and 9mobile.
Prepaid SIM cards are readily available at the airport and authorised retail outlets. Please note that passport identification is required for SIM registration.
General Security Information
Nigeria’s major business districts and international event venues maintain comprehensive security measures. Visitors are advised to use reputable transportation providers, arrange transfers through their hotel where possible.
As with any international travel, guests should remain aware of their surroundings, follow official travel advisories, and carry identification at all times. NOG Energy Week organisers implement additional on-site security protocols to ensure a safe and professional environment for all attendees.
Key Embassies
Travellers are encouraged to confirm contact details for their country’s embassy or consulate prior to travel. Examples of diplomatic missions in Nigeria include the Embassy of the United States, Abuja, the British High Commission, Abuja, the Embassy of France in Abuja, and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, Abuja.
